***** Registrations for AAWS08 are now being accepted. Register online now at www.daff.gov.au/aaws08 to receive the special early bird rate of $700 per delegate. This is a saving of $200 on the full rate, but is only available until 30 June. At the bottom of this post is a short item about the conference which you can use in newsletters and emails to spread the word about this important event.

***** Keynote speakers have been confirmed for AAWS08 including:
Prof Ivan Caple, BVSc (Melb) PhD (UNSW) MACVSc, Professor Emeritus at the University of Melbourne, a Fellow of Animal Health Australia, and is currently a member of the Australian Animal Welfare Strategy Advisory Committee.
Prof Donald Broom, MA, PhD, ScD, the world’s first Professor of Animal Welfare, and has held this post at Cambridge University’s Department of Veterinary Medicine since 1986.
Prof Marian Dawkins, MA DPhil Oxf, DSC (Hon) Guelph, Professor of Animal Behaviour at the University of Oxford and has a long-standing interest in animal consciousness and animal welfare, particularly that of poultry.
Dr Judy MacArthur Clark, CBE DVMS DLAS DipLAM FIBiol MRCVS, is Chief Inspector of the Home Office Animals (Scientific Procedures) Inspectorate, and formerly Chair of the Farm Animals Welfare Council and President of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons
Prof Peter Sandoe, director of the Danish Centre for Bioethics and Risk Assessment (CeBRA) and co-author of Ethics of Animal Use (Blackwell, 2008).

Reviewing the submitted abstracts is currently underway and the conference committee is meeting soon to finalise the program which will be announced in early June.

The AAWS08 International Animal Welfare Conference will bring together Australian and global leaders in animal welfare science, practice and policy.

Up to 500 guests are expected to attend the event, which has already attracted substantial interest from potential speakers, sponsors and participants, from Australia and overseas.

Topics to be discussed apply to all animals, from companion animals and livestock, as well as native and exotic animals; from the changing face of animal ethics, the role of government and of animal welfare agencies in improving animal welfare, to measuring and making sustainable improvements to animal welfare, and perspectives on animal welfare from Europe and the USA.

AAWS08 provides an unprecedented and valuable opportunity to share ideas, learn about new developments and identify priorities for action with key animal welfare interest groups.

Online registration now available

Online registration is now available for the AAWS08 conference. You can also amend your registration once submitted.

Registration fees for AAWS08 are (in Australian dollars):
$700 for early birds (registered before 30 June 2008)
$900 for full delegates (after 30 June 2008)
$400 for a day pass (does not include social functions)
$350 for a student (does not include social functions)

Accepted speakers at the conference will receive a discounted registration of $500.
